2015 Running Recap

January 6, 2016 By Vanessa Vila 1 Comment

Here’s how 2015 went {in terms of running}:

January:

**I wanted to race this month–but couldn’t find anything!  A virtual race is tempting, as you get a medal, but then I realized I’d basically be paying $20+ for a medal, and be running solo.  Next year… the Frosty 50K (and 25K)!  2016 update–couldn’t find a team of 4 for the Frosty 50K relay, and I wasn’t feeling the 25K solo (haven’t been running enough for that). Next year?

February:

2/21 Popsicle 5K (and Gabe is signed up for the fun run!)–Too cold to bring Gabe… next year!
I ran 24:40, 1st in age group (25-29), 2nd female overall, and a PR!

March:

3/12  One mile Fun Run with co-workers–mile PR of 6:43 🙂

3/21  St. Leo’s 10K in Winston-Salem–10K PR of 50:22.  1st in (25-29) age group

April:

4/12  Raleigh Rock N Roll Half Marathon–GI distress but didn’t walk. 2:06:11 (my 3rd best half time)

May:

5/9 Childhood Cancer walk/run 5K for Sofie, Kernersville {untimed}

5/17 Dixie Divas 5K, Winston-Salem.  5K PR of 22:56 (however, course wasn’t a full 5K… womp)

5/31 Indoor Insanity Marathon Relay, Winston-Salem, unofficial team time 3:45-ish

June:

6/27 Ultimate Runner, Winston-Salem. 69th of 100 runners, 10th of 20 women.  Mile PR.

July:

7/4  The 4th of July 5K, Kernersville. 23:58, 4th place in age group of 26 women.

August:

8/16 tentative Ramblin’ Rose Triathlon, Winston-Salem  …Saving all my energy for the Half!

September:

9/6  Virginia Beach Rock ‘n’ Roll half marathon, Virginia Beach, VA, 2:07:34. I overheated but still managed to finish decently.

9/18 Moonlight Madness 5K, Winston-Salem. 24:23, 5th in age group.

9/26  Salem Lake Trail Race 7 miler, Kernersville.  58:56, 4th in age group.

October:

10/24  Virtual Race: Butterfly Children, ran a solo 5K in 25 min and some change

November:

11/7, Shea’s Chase 5K, Greensboro.  23:09 [not a full 5K distance].  1st place age group, 5th overall female.

11/26 Turkey Strut, Winston-Salem. 23:34, 6th place age group of 100+ women, and a new PR!

December:

12/5 Mistletoe half marathon–ran for fun with friends

 2015 Mileage:

  • January: 58
  • February: 67
  • March: 75
  • April: 58
  • May: 69
  • June: 55
  • July: 61
  • August: 80
  • September: 54
  • October: 48
  • November: 47
  • December 48
  • 2015 Total  = 720 miles

Altogether, I ran 8 5K’s, 1 10K, 1 7 miler, 1 marathon relay, 1 multi-distance race (Ultimate Runner), and 3 half marathons.  Whew!  What a great running year!  I can see my speed improvements clearly in the shorter distances, but the longer ones (half marathons) still elude me.  In 2016, I’m hoping to get the GI distress under control (with the help of my dear friend Immodium) and get faster at longer distances, as well as shorter ones.  I want to be top 5 in Ultimate Runner this year, and take home more age group awards–I had a lot of 4th places.  I will probably run the same races, more or less, this year. I’m proud of how consistent I was, and thankful that I stayed injury-free!  Running remains my #1 stress reliever, idea generator, and the ultimate “sorter-outer” of all my problems.  Thanks for following in my journey!
