This post is quite overdue, because I had technical difficulties on many fronts. First, my HostGator account’s card (my debit card) expired, but I forgot to update the account. With that taken care of, Murphy’s law struck again and my domain expired. I scrambled trying to remember (from 4 years ago!) how to do that, and finally (with my friend Karen’s help!) got that worked out. But then, I started my new job, and just didn’t really have the time or energy to blog this week. So, this is from Sunday, 5/17.
Starting at the beginning…
Went to packet pickup yesterday. Bib #74. The folks there said only 100 or so ladies had signed up. Good, I thought… my odds of winning are pretty high. Looking at last year’s results, if I got in the 23-minute range, I’d be in the top 3. But of course, I want to aim high, so I hoped for first place. On the flip side, I did want some competition to push me.
I checked out the map, and not really knowing Winston-Salem super well, I also clicked on “Elevation”–whew, good thing I did. Huge hill going down in mile 1, and up in mile 3–That’ll be sweet, I said wryly to myself. But, I’ve been training hills, so we’ll see!
I didn’t eat great yesterday… just really wasn’t careful. Had leftover ribs and garlic toast for lunch, Chipotle for dinner. I woke up at 6 to eat breakfast, and decided to go with the usual 2 eggs, 2 slices of toast, and coffee. After all, it was a mere 5K, 10 miles less than last month’s half marathon. I wasn’t taking it super serious in my nutrition preparation, which may have been a mistake!

Note: I bought these pics from the event photographers, Fire Eye Studios.
