I follow Kara Goucher’s husband’s Facebook page, Run the Edge. A few weeks ago, I saw they had posted a challenge called “2,015 miles in 2015.” Now, I know I can’t do all those miles solo, so I read closer–and found you can split it with 1-2 others! *whew* I quickly email my two running friends, hoping they’d say they were in (and they did!) I did the math, and 2,015 / 3 = 672 miles each. Per month, that’s 56 miles, and per week, 13. Pretty doable, as long as I do my two 3-milers during the week, and one long run of 7 miles on the weekend. Since I’ve started doing Salem Lake again, it shouldn’t be too hard. And with the Rock ‘N’ Roll half on the horizon… I am not lacking in motivation. Plus, I found out Smash Mouth is playing at the finish line! Too cool 🙂 “hey now, you’re an all-star, get your game on… Go play!”
I’ve been meaning to do a weekly recap of my running, but of course… Life gets in the way. So here I am, 3 weeks in:
Week 1: 12 miles total (9 towards the January goal, because of how the calendar falls)–including my Salem Lake speedwork session
Week 2: 13.1 miles total, including a 2-mile tempo (on the “dreadmill” unfortunately) @ 8:30 pace
Week 3: 11 miles total. Had some GI issues (probably due to stress) so my 3-miler on Thursday became 1 🙁 I did run 6.5 at Salem Lake with Dad on Saturday, which made up for it. We averaged a 10 min/mile, even with a walk break to eat my clementine, and another break to go pee in the woods, LOL
Year to Date: 33.1 miles. Not quite on track, but I’m not sweating it. Still plenty of time, and my weekly mileage will ramp up significantly with the half marathon training.
It’s shaping up to be a great year for running. Besides the SNAFU with my back this weekend. I think I injured it picking up my 4-year-old… ugh. Nothing like an injury to put me in a foul mood!
If you want more running inspiration, go check out my cousin Alexia over at The Picture Runner. She’s doing an amazing job combining two of her (our) favorite things, photography & running!
I will leave you with my favorites from past years (doesn’t include all… I’m not that organized!). Nothing like action shots to keep up the motivation, right? 😉
What are your goals this year?

Way to go! You’re right on track for the year especially with the half training ramping up. You’ll get your mileage no problem. 🙂 Hope your back is doing better and thanks for the shout out.
