Since my marathon in November, I’ve taken a big break. I had logged a lot of miles, and just needed some rest. I picked up Insanity in May, and now T25, so I’m still doing plenty of cardio and getting stronger. I just haven’t had the desire to get back to running a lot. 2-6 miles a week has been sufficient. What brought the motivation back? Watching the Ramblin’ Rose last Sunday (which I swam in, on a relay team), and watching the world championships of Track & Field later that day. Absolutely incredible, both events! So, I signed up for the Salem Lake 7 miler so now it’s GAME-ON! It won’t be like last year’s–the 30K–but still a nice challenge.
Today I woke up at 5:15 AM, got my butt outta bed, and logged two solid miles. It was a good start. No headphones, no GPS watch (just my trusty iPhone with Map my Run app), a headlamp, and a reflective belt (and clothes + shoes, of course!). The air felt a little warm (72*), humid, yet refreshing. The only sounds… I-40 in the distance, and the bugs & birds chirping. Ahhhhh, peace. I’ve missed this. Naturally, I had to #2 just a few minutes into it… Does anyone else have this problem?! I managed a sub-10 min mile, which felt fabulous after my long hiatus. Hopefully I can smoke the 7 miler next month!
I’m thrilled that my running wind has come back to me. Hoping for some really fun runs & fast times this fall 😉
Here’s another run I’m planning on doing! What about you?? Any races coming up? I’d love to hear what you’re up to!
