MLK Weekend

January 21, 2015 By Vanessa Vila Leave a Comment

This past weekend was a 3 day for us, MLK weekend.   I wanted to give a little tribute to Martin Luther King, Jr with a few of my favorite quotes of his (because I love quotes!)

This one:

Life’s most persistent and urgent question is, ‘What are you doing for others?’

And this one:
The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy.
And lastly:
I have decided to stick with love.  Hate is too great a burden to bear.
What an incredible person he must have been!  I hope this generation can see someone as inspirational and visionary.  The quotes I selected above have themes of love, strength, selflessness, and determination.  I really draw strength from that second quote (in regards to my job right now).  And that first one… this blog is as much for me as it is for you.  If I can change one person’s life in any small, positive, meaningful way–then it will be worth it.
As for this weekend, my parents came to visit for Gabe’s birthday!  It was really nice to have an extra set of adults here to help cook, clean, and watch the kiddos!  I am sooo thankful for them.  Other things I’m thankful for–because I’m trying to create a daily habit of gratitude:
1) I was able to do a 3 mile run today and the weather was GORGEOUS (63* and sunny!  I needed that Vitamin D man!)
2) Asher can soothe himself to sleep… enough said.  Oh, and his 2nd little tooth is almost in!
3) Gabe is leaving me alone right now to blog!
4) My dear husband gets our dinner & breakfast around every day, and washes the dishes, and plays with the boys… thankful for the help!  and lastly
5) It’s my lil bro’s b-day today.  We took an epic ski/snowboard trip 5 years ago today.  I’m so grateful he & I got to do that together.  I can’t wait to go back!
Speaking of family-one of my favorite things to do in my tiny little free time is these photo books.  It’s basically a yearbook of our family (broken into 6 month increments because I take so many pics!).  It gives me peace of mind, knowing I have all my important pics/memories in one spot.  If my house was to burn down, I’d grab these babies (after grabbing my actual babies of course!)  Plus, Shutterfly saves my pics and projects so it’s easy to re-order.  Here is the one I just finished:

Shutterfly photo books are the new way to preserve your memories. Create your own today.
*whew* that’s it for me!  Have a great night!  Here’s a few of the weekend (unedited, because I am tired)
