Week 3 (July 24 – 30)
With the sickness and the tip-over behind me (from weeks 1 and 2), I thought “OK, now I can have a good solid week of training!” And of course, by now you’re probably wondering—as any animal lover who knows me would—where is Luna in all of this?
Answer: very lonely at home.
Obviously I can’t bring her to the pool, or on bike rides, so our usual 5 days a week has gone to 2. She’s not thrilled about that, at all. And I can’t think of a way to change it, without adding in miles of running/walking that I don’t have the time and energy for.
I didn’t bring her on last week’s run because 1) it was way too hot/humid for a long run for her, and 2) I brought Gabe and I didn’t want to have to keep track of a dog and a 6 year old (I figured it might involve a whole lot of stopping!) So, she was pumped that Thursday was finally a run day!

I told Gabe he could come too (on his bike), so we set out for my usual running route. We got near the turnaround, and just as Luna pulled me off the road, Gabe exclaimed “Look Mom, a deer!” so I was looking one way while Luna yanked me the other way, and I rolled my ankle, where the road meets the grass (about a 3 inch drop off). It hurt, but I shook it out, and it seemed to be fine.
Well, it’s not fine. It’s not bad either… not swollen. But I can feel little twinges of pain every time I move it. It was OK in the pool this morning, but I’m concerned about the Spartan Race, which is in 2 days. Therefore, I probably won’t ride my bike tomorrow (or I’ll do a slow stationary bike ride and see how it feels). I also want to buy some KT tape and get it taped up so that it will have some extra support at the race.
I had been so hopeful to have a solid week, but it could be worse. I’m thankful for my body and everything it’s capable of, so this is a very minor strain/sprain. I’ll ice it tonight and tomorrow, and maybe it’ll be good as new for Sunday?
Workout Totals:
Monday: REST + 1 mile easy on the bike (to shake off the fear)
Tuesday: 900 yard swim
Wednesday: 9.3 mile bike, at lunch (hot!)
Thursday: 3.1 run with Gabe & Luna
Friday: 1,050 yard swim, my furthest yet
Saturday: Rest
Sunday: Spartan sprint Asheville! ~4.5 miles
