April Run-down

May 10, 2016 By Vanessa Vila Leave a Comment

I decided to borrow an idea from a fellow mom-blogger-friend, Megan, and do a monthly run down.  You can see hers here 🙂

I have been terribly behind on my photos and phonebook projects.  I still have to blog about going to Asheville Easter weekend, and hell, I never blogged about going to the Blue Ridge Parkway & mountains in October!  Life moves at an intense pace (especially when I’m working, training, and have 2 kids!) so if I don’t slow down… I feel like I just might miss it.

Which brings me to slowing down. And blogging on a Monday afternoon.  Fact is, I gave my two week notice at work… 2 weeks ago!  So today is unemployment day #1 🙂  Don’t worry too much, I have something else lined up.  I just knew I couldn’t keep doing what I was doing.  I didn’t feel good about it.  I dreaded work most days.  And even though I was giving my best, I knew (and still know!) there’s something better out there for me.

So thankfully, the Lord provided, and the stars aligned in all the right ways.  I am thrilled about my new job, and also pumped to have 2 weeks off to: catch up on reading, catch up on my photo-books, catch up on blogging, on sleep, on cleaning, on errands… and relaxing.  Definitely going to take some time to just… breathe, enjoy laying in the hammock, and doing a little of nothing.

As for the monthly run-down…  April is one of my fave months!  My birthday is nice, but I enjoy the warmer temps, all the trees/bushes/flowers coming out, and the longer days full of sunshine!

In April, we celebrated my 31st bday at the races in Raleigh, then at home with some home cooked steak by my grill master hubby 🙂  And no, we didn’t all decide to wear blue on purpose, it just happened!  I loved having my parents here for my birthday, and J bought me some gorgeous Tiffany’s jewelry!

I have to say, I am one lucky wife, mom, and daughter.  I feel so loved by my family every single day.

J & I are making it a point to at least get out together, sans kids, once a month.  We are pretty busy but try to say “no” to things so we don’t lead a such a chaotic life where we miss the little things.  Our memorable date night from April was to a yummy place in Jamestown called Southern Roots.  I wore my new Stitch Fix dress and necklace.  We had a blast!  We sat outside, enjoyed some warm rosemary bread with butter, relished some pulled pork (me) and steak (him), plus somehow found space for dessert of chocolate cake with ice cream!  Thank God running torches all the calories 😉

I had some great training runs, and none went badly, a far cry from this time last year!  (I still have a blog post in draft form, titled “Oh Sweet Immodium”–you are lucky I never finished! lol)  I’ve truly enjoyed nature this spring, save for the one day I almost stepped on a huge black snake!

The training (all 12 weeks of it!) culminated in my half marathon PR at the Carolina Brewsfest race, which felt awesome!  I dedicated the race to Javi.  He’s been my rock, and I wouldn’t be who I am today or where I am today without him.  I love you so much, baby.  Thank you for understanding my need to run.

And I almost forgot, at the beginning of the month, we did a little makeover to our front room.  Unfortunately I don’t have a “before” pic handy, but the after is beautiful!  Once I get my photo project completed started, I will post the full before/after.  Here’s Asher hanging out in our freshly painted room:

April was wonderful, and so far May hasn’t disappointed either!

Thanks for reading!!
